THE MISSION MAKERS ARE COMING TO A CHURCH NEAR YOU!

A good reporter asks and answers the questions: Who? What? Where? When? Why?

 Who? YOU

What? GATHER TO SERVE, LEARN, SOCIALIZE

 Where? ST. TIM’S

When? MONTHLY

Why? THERE ARE THOSE IN NEED

Our kick-off MISSION MAKERS event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28, or Sunday, Sept. 29. Our service will focus on “bag filling” -- filling School Backpacks and Activity Bags for GEMMA, plus Birthday Bags for Feast of Justice and Memorial Presbyterian Church’s Hope Pantry.

Please refer to the list of needed items attached to this edition of Tidings. A collection box will be at the Fillmore Street entrance. More information will be made available the closer we get to the event. Keep an eye on the bulletin board in the Cafe area! And as always, thank you for your support as we begin this new chapter at St. Tim’s!

We will talk and pack—and laugh—FROM 3:30 TO 5:00 PM, with a pizza dinner to wrap up the fun! Please check your weekly bulletin and St. Tim’s Facebook page for details. www.facebook.com/stimslutheranchurchfoxrok

FINANCIAL NEWS FOR SEPTEMBER

Here is the first of what I plan to be regular financial reports for Tidings. My hope is to keep you up to date on our financial health; giving you both the good and bad news so that everyone is aware of where we stand.

Publishing our monthly income in the Sunday bulletin is Step One. Step Two is informing you of what’s happening behind the scenes, so to speak, to help keep St. Tim’s on good ground.

So what has happened since our Congregational Meeting in April? A lot! A short-term CD at 5% was purchased from our bank. We have switched from PECO to another provider to get our electricity at a lower rate. Updated documents that prove St. Tim’s existence as a tax-exempt religious organization are now in both print and digital forms so that we can conduct business more efficiently in the 21st century.

You may recall that St. Tim’s has been plagued with major maintenance repairs and replacements these past few years. Unfortunately, that trend continued into 2024 with the need to purchase a new rooftop A/C unit for the Education Building. Attempts at repairs and making do finally ran their course.

Fortunately, money was available to pay for this expense from our Endowment Fund.

As Treasurer, I’m working to find ways that will allow us to not only increase our Endowment Fund, but will also encourage all aspects of St. Tim’s financials to grow. Your suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Special thanks to Vanessa Fineberg, Liz Soltan, and Susan Feola for bringing me up to speed in all that being your treasurer entails. Your continued help is much appreciated!

ST. TIMOTHY CHRISTIAN PRESCHOOL

BEGINS ANOTHER YEAR OF LEARNING—AND FUN

Linda Yesenosky, director of our preschool, reports that our entire teaching staff is returning this year. Thanks to these experienced teachers’ efforts, our classrooms are clean, decorated, and ready to welcome students.

For the first few weeks, the little ones will be busy adjusting to their teachers, classroom routines, and new friends. Their first field trip—a visit to the Pennypack Nature Center—is set for the end of September. “Time with Pastor Kathleen” will start in October. Because she has office hours on Mondays, Pastor Kathleen will be a familiar friend by then.

Look for the children’s artwork to brighten our halls once again!

Dear St. Timothy Friends,

Thank you for all your good wishes on my 90th birthday—the altar flowers, brunch, cards, and gifts.

Many thanks!

Love,

Janet Schwab

COUNCIL NEWS

Our monthly meeting was held on Monday, August 19th. Many topics were discussed, including increases in landscaping and electrical costs, surveying the surrounding community regarding needs that we might address with ministry programs, grants that are available for us to utilize for ministry projects, and financing and installation of the new A/C system in the education/office wing.

We will be returning to publishing the Tidings newsletter monthly rather than bimonthly beginning September 2024. We are hoping that you have taken the time to provide an email address to receive the newsletter electronically. Our goal is also to provide any timely information via email messages as well. We are trying to cut down on the costs for postage. Anyone without email will continue to receive their Tidings in print via regular mail.

The Council will be discussing ways to help the congregation to be better informed and connected.

If you have questions and/or concerns for Council, please don’t hesitate to reach out to any members.

OUR NEXT COUNCIL MEETING IS MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, AT 4 PM.

(SEE CONTACT INFORMATION FOR COUNCIL ON THE FOLLOWING PAGE.)

A/C UPDATE

After extensive research and careful deliberation, the executive board of the Council made a decision to replace the 20+ year- old A/C unit that cools the education wing, offices, library, and cafe. For two summers we have worked to try to remediate the condensation and compressor problems we have had with the present unit, but it was finally determined that a new unit is the only solution. We have several groups that use our building during the week—including our preschool---and we must provide an inviting and comfortable space for them.

During the week of August 5, Council members Susan Feola, Vanessa Fineberg, Kathy Swift, and Carolyn Denzel received four bids on the project. The executive board then met on August 14 to compare them and decide on which proposal to accept. After a very thorough discussion, the bid from ECI Comfort Heating & Cooling was unanimously accepted. The new unit was installed on Thursday, August 22, just in time for scheduled funeral services on that Friday and Saturday, and the start of preschool on Monday, August 26.

You may recall that last year, in anticipation of the upcoming need to replace the A/C unit, the preschool held fund-raising events that raised money to help with the cost of this project, and they are willing to help us again. Council is considering ways to raise funds to cover the remaining cost of this project, as well as future projects that require attention in our building to maintain the systems and keep them functioning. We will continue to keep you posted.  –Susan Feola, Council President
