A MESSAGE FROM PASTOR KATHLEEN

Dear Ones of God,

Sharing a few brief words of Henri Nouwen this month. Nouwen had many gifts -- as a celebrated theologian, teacher, and man of God.  As we walk through

these last few weeks of Fall, remember God is full of love for you, Beloveds.

—Pastor Kathleen

The more you are called to speak for God's love, the more you will need to deepen the knowledge of that love in your own heart.  The farther the outward journey takes you the deeper the inward journey must be.  Only when your roots are deep can your fruits be abundant.  The enemy is there, waiting to destroy you, but you can face the enemy without fear when you know that you are held safe in the love of Jesus. -- The Inner Voice of Love by Henri J. M. Nouwen

FALL LANDSCAPING WITH TROOP 226: TEAMWORK MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE

It’s often said that too many hands spoil the broth, but surely not in this case. Scouts and parents from Troop 226 worked hand in hand with church members on Saturday, November 1, to revamp St. Tim’s church grounds on Oxford Avenue/Huntingdon Pike. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Lutheran Synod’s Care of Creation Ministry joined forces with the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education to provide free trees and shrubs native to southeast Pennsylvania. Lots of digging, weeding, transplanting, trimming, and planting took place with everybody pitching in as they were able. We can’t thank Troop 226 enough for taking on the heavy work of this project. When everyone works together, amazing things happen!—Kathy Swift

EVERYTHING BUT THE TURKEY: ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR THE GEMMA SERVICES THANKSGIVING PROJECT

St. Tim’s has long supported the children of Gemma Services. However, Gemma also serves families in need. And that’s where Everything But the Turkey came into play. Gemma’s prescribed list for each bag makes sure that every family receives literally everything they need for a Thanksgiving feast, with $25 gift cards to Walmart to purchase the star of the meal, the turkey itself. As customary, the people of St. Tim’s came together to donate the required food items. With generous food donations, money donations, and grants, including one from Thrivent Financial Services, we exceeded our goal and donated eight bags.

Amanda Bryant, Gemma’s Director of Donor and Volunteer Engagement, stated that all participating churches and groups exceeded their goals as well. Amanda’s hope is that Gemma’s goal of 200 bags will be reached. A big “Thank You” to all who participated. We did a good thing in this time of need!—Kathy Swift

OUR NOVEMBER HOPE’S TABLE IS  SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 8

Drop in to our “Early Thanksgiving” free community lunch, any time between 11 am and 1 pm. We’re not talking turkey, but chicken casserole, sweet potatoes, string beans, soup, and a pumpkin-flavored cake and homemade ginger snaps. Hmmn…

Some of our friends and neighbors may be feeling financial strain as the federal government shutdown continues. Why not invite them to join us?

If you would like to help by cooking ahead of time, by serving during the lunch, or by cleaning up afterward, please get in touch with Liz Soltan at soltan320@comcast.net, or 215-828-1619.
