Summer is a busy time at St. Tim’s:
* VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Our evening program, “Twists and Turns,” runs from 6:15 to 8:15 pm, Monday to Friday, JULY 15-19. It’s not too late to sign up to help—call Sue Feola at 215-718-9600.
* Our online summer BIBLE STUDY is on hiatus in August, but Pastor Kathleen is already planning the fall session, which begins on SEPTEMBER 12. Check your Sunday bulletins and our Facebook page for more details.
* HOPE’S TABLE RETURNS ON AUGUST 10, FROM 11 AM TO 1 PM.
If you’re interested in learning more about volunteering for this food and fellowship ministry, please attend a meeting on Tuesday, JULY 23, at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall, or call Liz Soltan (215-828-1619) or Rich Soltan (215-828-1617).
* ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 27, FROM 7:00 TO 9:00 PM, ST. TIM’S WILL HOST A VIEWING OF AN ONLINE DISCUSSION OF CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.
After we watch the online discussion together, we’ll share our reactions and ideas. This viewing is part of a Synod-offered “Kindling Faith” series about the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s Social Statements. The series hopes to help answer the question: “What does it mean to be Lutheran in a crucial election year?” Let’s find out together!

ON A PERSONAL NOTE
Late spring and early summer brought members some good news worth sharing:
CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST WISHES to…
ZEKE LYDEN, on his graduation from the Arts Academy at Benjamin Rush. In September he heads off to De Sales University near Allentown to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing science. He’s pictured below with proud father, Tom. (Proud mother, Michelle, no doubt was behind the camera.)
HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY, JANET!
Faithful, hard-working member Janet Schwab celebrated her 90th birthday at our coffee hour on July 1.
Janet has served St. Tim’s as former president of Milestones, church archivist, Women of the ELCA leader, and always-there-when-needed volunteer. A retired commercial artist who designed many product labels at a Philadelphia advertising agency, Janet shared her artistic talents at Christmas Bazaars and craft sales at St. Tim’s.
MORE “CONGRATULATIONS to…”
TIMMY MADDEN, who recently received an attendance award and the “Culinary Arts Alumni Tool of the Trade Award” from the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology/Abington High School. Sharon and Tim Madden report that the two chefs pictured below with Timmy at the Awards Night are the instructors who nominated him for the award.
KATHY DOS SANTOS, as she retires from her teaching career. After teaching preschoolers, then adults in the corporate world while her sons were in grade school, Kathy joined Cheltenham School District 20 years ago. She taught first-grade for 15 years and kindergarten for the last 5 years at Wyncote Elementary. Her retirement was announced at both the student concert and a school “Town Meeting,” and her fellow staff members honored her at an end-of-the-year retirement celebration.
Although Kathy says she has many plans for her retirement, she adds, “Most of all, I want to have more time to devote to family and friends.”
Kathy (top left), with her mother, Edna, and her sister, Karen
TINA SNYDER, who is retiring from the Philadelphia School District after 26 years at Fox Chase Elementary. Tina worked at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Engineering in the Dean’s Business Office before her children were born. She and her younger child, John, began kindergarten together—he, as a student; she, as a classroom assistant. When Fox Chase Elementary opened special education classes, Tina became a special education assistant.
As a member of Council, Tina has organized and helped at many St. Tim’s celebrations. Perhaps that’s why she especially enjoyed being a guest of honor at the celebration that Fox Chase Elementary held for her and two other retirees (including someone you may remember, teacher Laura Ottinger).
Tina says she has no special plans for retirement: “Right now, I am enjoying waking up without an alarm! I really like leisurely sipping my coffee and playing with our kitten, Rex. I like the slower pace. Retirement is good!”
FOOD MINISTRY CONTINUES
DURING THE SUMMER
With summer vacations affecting volunteer support everywhere, agencies like Caring for Friends, Feast of Justice, and the food bank of Memorial Presbyterian Church of Fox Chase depend on - and very much appreciate - our efforts to provide home-cooked meals, canned goods, and personal hygiene products for our neighbors in need. Remember, children are home and away from school food programs, so cereals, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, dried fruit, and snacks are in demand.
Tins and easy-to-follow instructions for Caring for Friends meals are on the table in front of the Café bulletin board. Bring your frozen meals to the freezer in the Service Room next to the pastor’s office.
You can deposit your other donations in the Library on Sundays or when the church office is ordinarily open-- Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 am to 12 noon. Please call first (215-745-4453) to let our church administrator, Katie McAlorum, know you are coming.
PRAYER MINISTRY
The Prayer Team is ready to lift you or your concern in prayer. No concern is too small or insignificant. If you need prayer, talk with one of our team members: Carolyn Denzel, Sue Feola, Vanessa Fineberg, Barbara Huber, Isabel Hyczko, Tina Snyder, Rich Soltan, Verna Clohecy, and Pastor Kerin.
